America’s Youngest CEO’s

Posted by David Keelan on Tuesday, August 1, 2006

In a continuing effort to debunk the myth that Chris Merdon is too young to be Howard County’s next Executive allow me to bring to your attention some of America’s youngest CEOs.

  • 33-year-old Matthew McCauley, the youngest CEO to head the $700 million children’s clothier Gymboree
  • Michael Rubin, 33, started GSI Commerce a $470 million Nasdaq-listed firm that builds and runs online stores
  • Michael Chasen, 34, CEO and co-founder of Blackboard, a $142 million Nasdaq-listed, developer and marketer of educational software
  • Kevin Plank 33, Under Armor founder, a $281 million company.
  • Mariner Kemper, 33, UMB Financial, a $440 million multibank holding company with 141 branches throughout the Midwest.

Given Merdon’s experience I believe he is qualified to be the next Howard County Executive.

Too many people try to use age as a qualification for public office. Experience is nice, but new ideas are a welcome addition

What age is Ken Ulman? This is a non-issue, as both candidates are young. Let’s look at the issues instead.

It is a non-issue but Mr. Wallis wants to make it an issue. This post and the “Experience Counts” post illustrate that age is a non-issue.
